At the Annual Council Meeting held on Monday 12th May 2025 Portreath Parish Council reaffirmed it's Civility and Respect Pledge.
The Council also unanimously resolved to sign up to the Statement of Assurance . The statement of Assurance invites Councillors to personally commit to treating others with respect in the course of their duties. It's purpose is to foster a positive Council culture and help reduce bullying, intimidation and poor conduct. Signing the Statement demonstrates a Councillor's personal commitment to upholding the Council's Code of Conduct and expected standards of public office.
Portreath Parish Council:
- Has put in place a training programme for councillors and staff
- Has signed up to the Code of Conduct for councillors
- Has good governance arrangements in place including staff contract6s and a dignity at work policy
- Will seek professional help at the early stages should civility and respect issues arise
- Will commit to calling out bullying and harassment if and when it happens
- Will continue to learn from best practices in the sector and aspire to be a role model/champion council through, for example, the Local Council Award Scheme
- Supports the continued lobbying for change in legislation to support the Civility and Respect Pledge, including sanctions for elected members where appropriate
